Grilling Cheeze Block

Hot off the GRILL! Daiya’s NEW Grilling Cheeze Block, inspired by halloumi cheese from Cyprus, invites your taste buds to set sail to the Mediterranean.

This one-of-a-kind cheeze isn’t prepared like most others: Daiya’s Grilling Cheeze Block is meant to be grilled and pan-fried (or even air-fried or deep-fried!), maintaining its shape without melting away.

Crispy and golden-brown on the outside yet creamy and chewy on the inside, this unique plant-based grilling cheeze will add an unexpected twist to all your favorite dishes. Fire up the BBQ and get your grill on – it’s great for burgers & kebabs! Or, if grilling isn’t your forte, pan-fry and add to cold or warm salads, sandwiches, wraps and mezze platters.

Made with oats & chickpeas and seasoned with herbs & garlic, Daiya’s Grilling Cheeze Block is flipping delicious.

Ingredients

OAT BASE (FILTERED WATER, OAT FLOUR), MODIFIED POTATO STARCH, COCONUT OIL, SALT, NATURAL FLAVORS, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, CHICKPEA FLOUR, CHICKPEA PROTEIN, KONJAC FLOUR, LACTIC ACID, FRUIT AND/OR VEGETABLE JUICE COLOR, OREGANO, THYME, GARLIC.

Cooking Instructions

Pan-Frying Instructions:

  • Pre-heat non-stick pan on medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes or until hot
  • Add 1 tsp. of EVOO or oil of choice (incl. cooking spray) to the non-stick pan and let heat up for 1-2 minutes – the oil should be hot before placing grilling cheeze on!
  • While the non-stick pan and oil are heating, cut the grilling cheeze block into your preferred shape – we recommend 1″ cubes or 0.5″ thick slices
  • Generously brush or toss each side of your grilling cheeze portions with EVOO or preferred oil of choice, about 1 tsp. or until fully coated
  • Place grilling cheeze portions onto hot non-stick pan, turn down to medium heat and let sit for approx. 5 min – do not flip or move! – to allow for the grilling cheeze to develop a crispy, golden-brown crust.
  • After approx. 5 min, flip cheeze portions and allow another 5 min for crust to form on other side.
  • Once the cheeze is fried to your liking and the golden-brown crust looks irresistible, you are ready to serve and savor your cheeze!

Note: For best results, we recommend using a non-stick frying pan. Cook times may vary depending on the size of the grilling cheeze portion, stovetop make/model, and desired level of crispiness and browning.

 

BBQ Grilling Instructions:

  • Brush BBQ grates with EVOO or oil of choice (or spray generously with cooking oil)
  • Pre-heat BBQ to approx. 450°F
  • While BBQ is heating up, cut the grilling cheeze block into your preferred shape – we highly recommend 0.5″ thick slices
  • Generously brush or toss each side of your grilling cheeze portions with EVOO or preferred oil of choice, about 1 tsp. or until fully coated
  • Place grilling cheeze portions onto BBQ and close the BBQ lid
  • Grill cheeze for 4-5 minutes – do not flip or move! – to allow for a crust to form and slightly char
  • After 4-5 minutes, flip grilling cheeze portions and grill for another 4-5 minutes to allow for golden-brown, slightly charred crust to form on other side
  • After approx. 5 min, flip cheeze portions and allow another 5 min for crust to form on other side
  • Once cheeze is grilled to your liking and the golden-brown crust looks irresistible, you are ready to serve and savor your cheeze!

Note: Cook times may vary depending on the size of the grilling cheeze portion, BBQ make/model, and desired level of crispiness and browning.

 

Air Fryer Instructions:

  • Pre-heat air fryer to 390°F
  • While air fryer is heating up, cut the grilling cheeze block into your preferred shape – we recommend 1″ cubes or 0.5″ thick slices
  • Generously brush or toss each side of your grilling cheeze portions with EVOO or preferred oil of choice, about 1 tsp. or until fully coated
  • Mist air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with oil, about 0.5 tsp.
  • Place grilling cheeze in basket and air fry for 12-15 minutes or until cheeze is crispy on all sides, turning once halfway through
  • Once the cheeze is fried to your liking and the crust is crispy to the touch, you are ready to serve and savor your cheeze!

Note: Cook times may vary depending on the size of the grilling cheeze portion, air fryer make/model, and desired level of crispiness and browning.

 

Deep-Frying Instructions:

  • Add 1/4 cup of preferred oat milk to a bowl and slowly add in 2 tbsp. cornstarch, whisking thoroughly
  • Cut grilling cheeze into 1/4” rectangles (one block should yield 6-8 pieces)
  • Toss grilling cheeze in gluten-free flour
  • Dip each grilling cheeze piece in cornstarch oat milk mixture
  • Coat each entire grilling cheeze piece with gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • Repeat steps 3-5 for a double coating and let breaded cheeze sticks sit for 5 minutes to set
  • Deep fry for 3-5 minutes until irresistibly golden brown and crispy
  • Remove from heat and let cool for 2 minutes
  • Serve, savor and repeat

Pro tip: we love dipping our breaded grilling cheeze bites/sticks in marinara sauce!
